Symbolism of dreadlocks

Hair is not just hair, it's an expression of who you are; it's an expression of what you are and what you aspire to be; it's you, naturally. At Linton’s, your locs will be well taken care of, it doesn’t matter the type of hair nor the length of your hair; we’ll get you sorted. We don’t only nurse the starting locs, we nurse any stage your locs may be in.

The process
You’re going to need a bit of patience when growing your locs. It can take up to 36 months before your locs reach the “Adult” stage. But worry not, with Linton’s in the hem, you’ll enjoy every stage of your dreadlock journey.

Stage 1
1. Starter locs (3-6 months)

This will mainly depend on the nature of your hair, as well as it’s growth rate. Irrespective of the method used to start, we’ll make sure your new cute locks look super.

Stage 2
2. Budding (3-12 months)

In this stage, your locs will “swell” and will develop “lumps”. Don’t worry. It’s supposed to happen! To avoid weak spots and lumps, thorough and consistent cleansing is to be essentially done in this stage.

Stage 3
3. Teenage locs (6-18 months)

During this stage, your locks will become increasingly dense. Basically, the size of your locs will double in size.

Stage 4
4. Adult locs (18-36 months)

The ends of your locs will be sealed at this stage and they’ll begin to grow lenght-wise. The size of the locs will begin to be more consistent.

Dreadlock care
1. Keep you locks looking healthy and well-conditioned by using a herbal hair rinse instead of a cream-based conditioner. Cream-based conditioners tend to leave your dreadlocks oily instead of moisturising them.

2. If you’ve got long hair, consider starting your dreadlock journey with a two-strand twist as opposed to coils. The same goes for children!

3. It’s advisable to wash your locs every two weeks. Sometimes life gets busy, we know; but don’t push the limits! A month between washes is the really pushing it!
